Drawing Technique
My technique is not draftsmanship. It is actually a culmination of being open to the experience of seeing, connecting your hand to your eye and responding to mass, form, and motion in a two dimensional media. Drawing tools are not just limited to charcoal or pencil, but may include watercolor, chalk, pastel, or conte applied with my hand, brushes, rocks, etc.  Imagination is the limit.

My Drawings begin as an abstract expression of my experience of seeing. If the subject is a live model, when the process begins the initial gesture takes form without looking at the paper. I stay immersed in the dynamics of the pose. From that point on, the interaction between the subject, myself, and the marks on the paper becomes essential to the development of the drawing. The reaction that I have at that particular encounter with the subject influences the work. For example, in one session, the broad sweep of my eye across the form may be my focus. At another session with the same pose and model, the interest may lie for me in the tension of the shoulder through to the elegant sweep of the hand suspended in space. Each drawing has a life of its own when the approach to the subject is open to new possiblilities.

My mixed media work was a natural evolution, bringing the tool of color to the creative process of my drawing. To me, drawing as an artform is both primal and complete.
